DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids sent more than 800 tons of waste for recycling
“DTEK transforms the business in accordance with the New Strategy 2030, based on ESG principals, values and business responsibility for progress in achieving the sustainable development goals of the UN Global Compact. We are consistently working to minimize the amount of waste, while sorting and utilizing those that are generated. To achieve this, we established quite an effective waste management system: we placed 40 bins for waste, equipped areas for their temporary storage. For 6 months of 2021, DTEK Kyiv Region Grids sent 597 tons of waste for utilization and recycling, among which 576 tons are recyclables. That is, it was recurrently used and did not pollute our environment. 206 tons were sent for disposal on landfills,” says Vitalii Shaida, Director General at DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.
DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids sorts industrial waste into 29 categories: glass, wastepaper, polymers, oily waste, etc. For their utilization, the company has signed contracts with specialized facilities and enterprises that have the appropriate licenses and facilities for their processing.
The major waste category generated by DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids is reinforced concrete poles. Since the beginning of the year, the company has sent 495 tons of such raw materials for reuse in construction. In addition, 102 tons are other waste that is sent for recycling and reuse: used tires, oily waste, batteries, glass, used batteries, mercury lamps and electrical equipment. 206 tons of solid household and construction waste were sent to special landfills for disposal.
As previously reported, within two years DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids transferred 5,400 tons of waste for utilization and recycling.
