In just 45 days, DTEK has completely restored power to the liberated Kyiv region
On May 18, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids energy workers have restored electricity to the entire Kyiv region that suffered from hostilities and was liberated from russian invaders on April 2. Electricity was restored to 260,000 families in almost 600 settlements. In particular, Bucha, Vyshhorod and Brovary districts that suffered the most.
“In wartime, DTEK Group contributes to the energy safety of Ukraine. Since the first day of war, our emergency crews have been repairing the grids, destroyed by the invaders, and restoring electricity to Ukrainians and critical infrastructure facilities. Since the first day of war, we have restored electricity to more than 1,600,000 Ukrainian families in Kyiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa regions, as well as in the city of Kyiv. In the Kyiv region, where energy infrastructure suffered huge damage, in just 45 days we implemented such a large-scale restoration of grids that the Ukrainian energy industry has never seen before. And today, May 18, we have completely restored electricity to the Kyiv region, thus making it a place for happy life again,” – noted Dmytro Sakharuk, DTEK Executive Director.
“Restoring power to the Kyiv region, and just today restoration is completed 100%, is a big deal. As the President said, the first things to be restored are windows, roofs and power supply, so that people could return to their homes and live a normal life,” - commented Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Deputy Head of the Office of the President during an event dedicated to awarding of the energy workers, who were repairing grids in the Kyiv region.
On May 18, the last repaired 10 kV line, supplying electricity to Irpin, was launched into operation.
“DTEK has united all efforts and resources; over 1000 energy workers of 4 DTEK DSO from different regions of Ukraine were restoring the Kyiv region side by side. We have restored almost 10,000 kilometers of lines, destroyed by shelling. We have repaired and turned on 71 high voltage substations and 2,975 transformer substations, thus restoring electricity to the entire region, while there is still a large scope of work ahead of us that is related to ensuring reliability of power supply,” – said Oleksandr Fomenko, CEO of the DTEK Grids.
The company explained that this work is just the first stage, designed for fast restoration of electricity to all residents of the region. The second stage is ahead – restoration of backup power supplies and reconstruction of the existing power circuits.
Those residents of the region, who remain without electricity, can be connected to the grids that belong to other owners – developers, managing companies or condominiums. To restore electricity supply they should contact owners of the grids that they are connected to. After restoration of these grids, the company is ready to promptly apply voltage and restore electricity to all residents.
