Preservation of resources and protection of nature: international auditors certified DTEK Grids environmental programs

In 2024, DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators successfully passed international certification for compliance with the ISO 14001 standard. This means that enterprises reduce environmental impact, continue improving their ecological processes and conserve natural resources despite the war.

In 2024, supervisory audits took place in DTEK Dnipro Grids, DTEK Kyiv Grids, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids and DTEK Odesa Grids. DTEK Donetsk Grids has successfully completed the recertification audit.

Thanks to the environmental approaches, DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators implement environment-friendly practices and constantly reduce environmental impact. In order to comply with the international standards, energy workers reduce scope of waste, conserve natural resources, minimize risks of contamination, as well as constantly improve their environmental practices.

International auditors from TÜV AUSTRIA CERT GMBH (Austria) and G-Certi (South Korea) had high praise for the level of environmental programs of the companies, despite the challenges of large-scale war in Ukraine. The practices, highlighted by the international auditors include:

  • waste collection and sorting system at the enterprises;
  • environmental and educational project #EnergyWings related to protection of white storks and improving reliability of power supply;
  • expansion of the #EnergyWings projectcooperation with the Western Ukrainian Ornithological Society for ringing of storks within the framework of an international project of the Polish ornithologists “Małopolskie Towarzystwo Ornitologiczne;
  • systematic environmental education of employees;
  • participation in global initiatives “World Cleanup Day” and “Digital Cleanup”.

DSO certification is a confirmation of our responsibility to customers, partners and state. Annual confirmation of the status is a guarantee that we work transparently, comply with modern requirements of the energy market and constantly improve our environmental practices. Despite the war, we also continue our project on stork protection, which has already helped to increase stork population by more than 20,000 birds,noted Alina Bondarenko, CEO at DTEK Grids.

DTEK Grids have been working in compliance with the ISO 14001:2015 standard in the field of environmental management for many years: since 2011 — DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids, since 2013 — DTEK Dnipro Grids, since 2015 — DTEK Donetsk Grids, since 2019 — DTEK Kyiv Grids, since 2020 — DTEK Odesa Grids.
