Storks settled in 88% of nests on protective platforms: DTEK Dnipro Grids summed up the results of monitoring
Protective platforms are installed in the places, where the storks traditionally build their nests on the poles. Such structures reduce the risk of birds’ electrocution and prevent damage of the grids that may occur due to falling of the nests.
Every year, energy workers check the condition of platforms and track the number of storks that returned to them after wintering. In 2026, monitoring covered 298 nests, 263 of which were settled.
In parallel, DTEK Grids energy workers continue to install protective platforms for white storks. Since the beginning of the year, they installed 112 new structures, which is almost twice the initially planned number. The majority of new platforms appeared in Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

High level of platform settlement proves that such solutions help preserve the storks, while reducing risks for energy workers. This is an example of how caring for the environment can be combined with improving reliability of power supply”, – noted DTEK Grids CEO Alina Bondarenko.
Within the framework of the #EnergyWings initiative, energy workers together with their partners launched the “Stork Track” project for live tracking of stork migration routes using GPS transmitters. The data obtained helps better understand the population’s needs and plan measures to preserve it.
The #EnergyWings initiative started in 2013 and complies with the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 15 – “Preservation of terrestrial ecosystems”. Over the years of project implementation, DTEK Grids energy workers installed hundreds of protective platforms for storks, thus helping to preserve the population of birds, reduce risks of emergencies on the power lines and ensure more reliable power supply for the customers.
