Why are the schedules of power shutdowns stricter and frequently updated? – DTEK Dnipro Grids answers

Thermal power generation30 December 2025
Since October 22, energy workers of DTEK Dnipro Grids have to apply schedules of stabilization shutdowns in the region upon the order of NPC Ukrenergo due to the shortage of electricity in the energy system. For the past two months, russians have been launching more and more attacks on the energy infrastructure, causing equipment damage that makes it impossible to supply electricity to all consumers at once. To provide electricity evenly to all residents of the Dnipropetrovsk region, the schedules must comply with the current situation.

Schedules of stabilization shutdowns depend on the actual level of power generationcapacities of its transmission and distributionas well as potential volume of electricity consumption in every region of the countryFor examplethe consumption rises in the morning and eveningas well as during freezing temperaturesTaking all these factors into considerationNPC Ukrenergo gives corresponding command to all Distribution Systems OperatorsDTEK Dnipro Grids in particular.

Why did power shutdowns become stricterWhen will softer schedules be possible and under what conditions?

The volume and duration of shutdowns are connected to the shortage of electricity due to the damage of power generationtransmission and distribution facilities by massive enemy attacksTo avoid destruction of the energy systemNPC Ukrenergo gives a command for stricter limitations of power consumptionDistribution Systems Operators must follow the orders and do not make decisions about termination of shutdown schedules application on their own.

Why does the duration of shutdowns for different lines vary?

All consumers are split by the volume of consumption into six even linesBased on the current situation in the energy systemNPC Ukrenergo gives a command to the Distribution Systems Operators about the number of lines to be limited and for how longDue to repeating enemy attacksthe conditions change dynamicallythus requiring prompt changes in NPC commandsThereforethe grey zone of the schedule may sometimes be extendedhowever, it does not enter the guaranteed white zone of 3.hours between shutdowns.

At the same timethe lines are connected to different power lines and substationseach of which has its own technical conditionIt is impossible to perform remote switching at some equipmentthereforein order to restore electricity in accordance with the scheduleenergy workers have to go to the power facility and do it manuallyThis may take up to 30 minutes

Why are schedules frequently updated and is it possible to find out about the changes faster?

The schedules are frequently updated because the situation in the energy system may change several times a day due to constant russian attacksNPC Ukrenergo is tracking this and changes corresponding commands for Distribution Systems OperatorsDSO has to promptly implement these changes to maintain the balance and avoid large-scale failures in the gridDispatchers need up to 30 minutes to calculate the updated schedules in order to avoid errors and maintain even power supply to all customersWe recommend checking your schedule at the time when you will need electricityThe most convenient way to do this is via our Telegram or Viber chatbot.

Finding answers to other pending questions regarding power shutdownsfiling a request about power outage beyond the schedule and submitting meter readings is also possible in the chatbot.
