Why were there more light on the New Year holidays then now? – DTEK Dnipro Grids explains

Thermal power generation07 January 2026
Energy workers managed to provide more electricity to the customers’ homes during the holidays due to the reduced electricity consumption – businesses and the industry did not work to their full capacity, while the majority of the Dnipropetrovsk region’s residents stayed at home and used electricity evenly throughout the day, without evening and morning surges. Now, with the return to work, electricity consumption has increased dramatically. This, together with cold weather, has led to worsening of the situation in the energy system.
Why were there more light on the New Year holidays then now? – DTEK Dnipro Grids explains

From MondayJanuary 5, both industry and businesses of the region returned to the routine work modeThis has significantly impacted the volume of consumptionAdditionallythe load increases a lot in the morningwhen people are getting ready for workand in the eveningafter they return home.

At the same time, region’s grids are still not completely restored after massive enemy attacks on the energy infrastructureThe equipment that should supply electricity to the homes is still partially under repair.

“Let’s not forgetthe main cause of power outages are the consequences of numerous attacks on the energy systemThe situation in the energy system remains difficultRestoration of the infrastructure is a marathon, not a sprintWe are working non-stopbut complete restoration requires time and resources,  explained DTEK Dnipro Grids.

In order to help the energy workersit is recommended for business at this period of time to temporarily turn off the illumination of buildings’ facadessignboards and advertisementsFor household customers – not to turn on all powerful appliances at once immediately after the electricity restorationThis will allow to reduce load on the grids and duration of shutdowns.
