“Data out of the air”: DTEK Dnipro Grids debunks myths about reference meter readings

The purpose of taking reference readings is to register meter readings, so that specialists of the energy company could later compare it with the ones most recently provided by the customer, thus making it possible to analyze power consumption and find errors in calculation of volumes, if any.

What else should you know about taking refence readings

Myth No.1: The controller overestimates/makes up meter readings

The truth: The task of the controller is precisely to register actual data, in order to use it as a basis for analysis. As the energy company is the one interested in correct calculation of consumed electricity volumes.

In order to avoid any errors due to the human factor, DTEK Dnipro Grids introduced a “Mobile controller” app, which is used by all specialists. When registering readings, the controller enters data into the program on a smartphone or tablet and takes a photo of the meter, which is uploaded into the system for verification of readings.

If you still have doubts about the data, registered by the controller, you can place a request for retaking of reference readings. And then, you can witness the process together with the specialist and check the data that he entered in the app.

Myth No.2: I do not have to submit readings, since you register it yourself.

The truth: We take reference meter readings on average once every six months in compliance with requirements of the regulatory documents. Therefore, it does not provide us an opportunity to calculate real volume of electricity consumed by you for every calendar month. As, for that we would need to receive meter readings every month – during the last two days of the current month and the first three days of the next one. Otherwise, in accordance with the law, the volume will be calculated based on the average daily consumption.

Myth No.3: I do not want to let strangers in now.

The truth: Our controllers always carry a DTEK Dnipro Grids employee ID with them and must show it upon your request. If you do not consider this to be a sufficient proof that it is not an intruder in front of you, you may call the contact center and verify if such a controller really works in our company.

Let us remind that our specialists only register meter readings, they do not offer any other services nor do they accept payment from the customers for the provided services.
