DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids saves on electricity thanks to the digital cleanup
DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids supported the environmental campaign for digital cleanup. During the month, employees of the DSO deleted more than 674 gigabytes of digital “trash” from their devices and cloud storages, making it possible to save 337 kWh·of electricity per year, which can be compared to more than 6,700 hours of average notebook operation – i.e. almost a year of uninterrupted usage or nearly 18 hours of daily usage over the course of the year. Cleanup of gadgets also made it possible to reduce CO₂ emission by 169 kg – which is approximately equal to a trip in the gasoline-fueled car from Kyiv to Wroсlaw.
“We support sustainable development principles and implement environmental initiatives at all levels. Deleting redundant files from the computer seems to be not a big deal, but together it has a major impact on the environment. With such simple actions, we can reduce load on the ecosystem, extend service life of devices and contribute to efficient usage of resources,” — commented Yuliia Koromyslenko, chief specialist of the occupational and environmental safety department at DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.
Digital cleanup is directed at reducing the volume of digital trash — obsolete documents, duplicates of photos, spam in the email, unnecessary apps, accumulating in the memory of devices, consuming energy and, thus, increasing CO₂ emissions.
DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids plans to make digital cleanup a routing practice among employees and urges other companies to join the “Let’s Do It Ukraine” initiative, which annually unites millions of people all over the globe.
