Dual education in the DTEK Dnipro Grids: 52% of students continue their carrier in the company

DTEK Dnipro Grids continues to support education development and strengthen connection between science and production, providing the company with qualified specialists, who chose energy industry as their profession. In 2024, the company continued implementing modern practices of dual education, which allows students to get their first experience in the profession of energy worker. As of the end of 2024, 114 students from leadings technical colleges and universities of the Dnipropetrovsk region took advantage of the opportunities provided by dual education. After graduating from the higher education establishment, 52% of them continued to build career in the company.

In 2024, three more educational institutions joined cooperation with DTEK Dnipro Grids: Kryvyi Rih National University, Polytechnic Professional College of the Kryvyi Rih National University, Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. 

“We strive for young specialists to find their career path in the energy industry and have an opportunity for professional growth. The youth bring fresh ideas, implements innovations and speeds up the development of the company. That is why, we actively cooperate with educational institutions and develop partnership with leading educational establishments. As of today, our specialists cooperate with six colleges and three universities that prepare specialists in the field of “Power engineering, electrical engineering and electromechanics”. By developing the dual education project, we make significant contribution to supporting the youth and attract talented specialists to development of modern grids in Ukraine,”noted Andrii Tereshchuk, CEO at DTEK Dnipro Grids. 

Thanks to the dual education project, several educational initiatives have been implemented in 2024. An education hub with VR simulator to train students for live line works was established in Dnipro on the basis of NTU “Dnipro Polytechnic”. Familiarization of academic staff of NTUDnipro Polytechnicand Kamianske Power Engineering Professional College with modern equipment, protection means and technologies of live line works in 0.4-10 kV grids was conducted at the DTEK Dnipro Grids training yard.

Dual education allows attracting applicants and choosing the best of them for further employment. Program graduates mostly stay to work in the company – 52% of students, who combined study and work in the DTEK Dnipro Grids, continue their career development here. Thus, after graduation from the National Technical UniversityDnipro Polytechnic”, Bohdan Boiko began working in the company under the dual education program at the position of an electrician. As a result, a year later he got a promotion and became relay protection maintenance engineer. 

“I am happy that as early as during my study I got an opportunity to join DTEK Dnipro Grids. As a result, I received not only education but also practical experience and salary. After just a year of work, I became an engineer, which was an important step in my professional history. I am sure that young specialists need such programs that help them in their careers, so this year I recommended my brother to join the dual education program, too,noted Bohdan Boiko, relay protection maintenance engineer. 

In 2025, DTEK Dnipro Grids plans to expand dual education project, taking into account current needs of the energy sector in young highly qualified specialists.
