Eco initiatives of DTEK Grids – DSO continue “green” transformation
In the first half of 2025, DTEK Grids DSO continued implementing its eco initiatives. In particular, DTEK Kyiv Grids underwent a recertification audit of the environmental management system in compliance with ISO 14001 in July. Auditors noted a number of effective practices, namely: separate collection of waste, installation of platforms for stork nests, transition to LED-lighting, participation in the project “Precious Plastic”, replacement of oil circuit breakers with the vacuum ones, personnel training on the matters of environmental protection, planting of greenery. Recertification and supervisory audits are also scheduled in other DTEK Grids DSO for the second half of 2025.
As part of the environmental and educational project #EnergyWings, DTEK Grids DSO specialists helped ornithologists ring 106 white stork chicks. Ringing in the Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions has been ongoing for three years in a row in cooperation with the Western-Ukrainian Ornithologists Community and is a part of the international initiative of the Polish Ornithologists Community “Małopolskie Towarzystwo Ornitologiczne” related to preservation of this bird, symbolic for Ukraine.
In the first half of the year, energy workers of DTEK Grids DSO relocated 69 stork nests to safe reinforced platforms. And in spring, when the storks returned to Ukraine, energy workers inspected half of the nests, located on the platforms, and its settlement level amounted to 98 %.
An initiative for separate collection of waste continues at the DTEK Grids enterprises – nearly 2,300 containers have already been installed. In the first half of the year, 5 new containers have been installed at DTEK Dnipro Grids, and it is planned to install another 36 in Kyiv and Odesa region by the end of the year.
In the first half of the year, DTEK Grids DSO handed over a total of more than a thousand tons of waste to the specialized enterprises for recycling, namely 866 tons of scrap metal, 90 tons of tires, 64 tons of oil products and 43 tons of accumulator batteries.
DTEK Grids DSO continue to support the international project “Precious Plastic”. In 2025, within the framework of the project, 45 kg of caps were handed over to volunteers, the funds from which will go for fabrication of the FPV drones. In 2021, energy workers of DTEK Grids DSO collected a total of almost 900 kg of plastic and handed it over for recycling.
In the first half of 2025, DTEK Grids DSO employees implemented a number of environmental and social initiatives, which became an example of corporate responsibility and internal unity.
In April, DTEK Grids DSO supported the World Digital Cleanup Day. This initiative helped clear more than 4.4 TB of digital trash, allowing to save 2,200 kWh of electricity and reduce CO₂ emission by 1,100 kg.
DTEK Grids DSO continue to integrate eco principles into all aspects of its activities, thus demonstrating responsibility to society and nature. In the second half of the year, it is planned to install energy efficient equipment at the DSO: over 400 vacuum circuit breakers in place of the oil ones, over 50 transformers that do not require oil, as well as 9 gel batteries, which energy workers plan to install by the end of the year.
