DTEK Dnipro Grids energy workers sent 290 tons of waste for recycling over the course of three months of 2025

There is an efficient waste management system at DTEK Dnipro Grids, built on the principles of circular economy. Over the 1 quarter of 2025, energy workers sent almost 290 tons of various types of waste for recycling. This is a part of the company’s strategy, directed at sustainable development and environmental protection, set in the UN Global Compact.

“Despite the war, we continue to meet European standards of responsible consumption and implement environmental practices. In particular, since the beginning of the year we have already sent almost 212 tons of scrap metal and over 42 tons of used transformer oil for recycling. And then there is waste, wood chip, tires, etc. This waste is used as raw materials for production of new goods, thus helping to preserve natural resources,” – noted Alla Pavlova, chief specialist of the environmental safety division at DTEK Dnipro Grids.

The company has a special system for efficient collection of used materials and created waste. There are over 1,000 containers installed at all production sites for sorting of more than 40 types of waste: metal, glass, wastepaper, polymers, greased waste, batteries and other materials.

DTEK Dnipro Grids constantly improves its waste management system, making it possible to comply with waste management hierarchy. Additionally, it actively supports public environmental initiatives.

In particular, within the framework of the “Precious plastic” project, launched in 2020, energy workers collected and sent for recycling over 324 kg of plastic, namely: 105 kg of caps for PET bottles, 150 kg of plastic from furniture and 69 kg of PET bottles. In 2024, a part of collected caps was handed over to volunteers for production of FPV drones.

As previously reported, due to the principles of circular economy, energy workers reduce the volume of industrial waste. In 2024, the company handed over more than 726,000 tons of scrap metal and 13 tons of tires for recycling, thus reducing the environmental footprint of the enterprise.
