Energy workers of the DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids installed 20 safe nests for storks in 2024
Protection of stork nests is carried out within the framework of the environmental and educational initiative #EnergyWings, directed at preservation of the white stork population in Ukraine. This initiative complies with ESG principles and supports UN Global Compact Sustainable Development Goal No. 15 – “Preservation of terrestrial ecosystems”.
The works were carried out in the early spring and during the autumn-winter period, when the storks went to their wintering grounds.
“Despite the challenges of war, we continue to take care of the birds in our region. We relocate nests to the protective platforms, whenever possible, as our priority is to support the energy system and carry out prompt emergency repairs in order to restore electricity to customers’ homes after bad weather, shelling or technological violations. In 2024, our energy workers installed 20 stork nests. Famous Ukrainians take active part in reinforcement of stork nests. Thus, Kyrylo Veres, the Hero of Ukraine and commander of the K-2 unit, took part in installation of platforms for stork nests in the Kyiv region,” – noted Vitalii Shaida, CEO at DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.
Since 2020, energy workers of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids have already reinforced 166 stork nests on the poles, thus making it possible for more than a thousand nestlings to spread wings safely.
In 2025, the company plans to continue works related to installation of safe platforms for storks in the Kyiv region. DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids strives not only to ensure reliability of power supply but also contribute to preservation of the Ukrainian ecosystems.
