DTEK energy workers installed 12 safe platforms for storks in the Dnipropetrovsk region since the beginning of the year
The latest nest, located on the pole in the Plaveshchyna village, was discovered during regular inspection of the grids. The storks built it in the dangerous proximity to the power lines, and the nest could have collapsed on the wires due to strong wind. In order to avoid emergencies and protect the birds, energy workers fabricated a special steel platform and relocated the troubled nest on it when the storks flew away for the winter. The steel structure will not let it slide on the lines. This solution will keep the birds safe from electrocution and reduce the risk of emergency power outages for company’s customers.
“Despite the challenges of war, we continue to care about the environment and preserve biodiversity in our region. This year, within the framework of the #EnergyWings project, we relocated 12 more stork nests to the safe platforms. This work is conducted when the birds migrate south, for them to return to safe homes. This autumn’s works are completed, and we plan to continue in spring,” – noted DTEK Dnipro Grids CEO Andrii Tereshchuk.

A total of almost 230 such platforms have already been installed in the Dnipropetrovsk region. This is a part of the DTEK-2030 strategy, which is based on the ESG principles and strives to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition, for the second year in a row DTEK Dnipro Grids energy workers support an international project on ringing the white stork nestlings. This allows scientists track the impact of external factors, including the war, on its population, and helps create a unique international base for studying and preserving of this bird.
