Number of emergencies on the grids in the Kyiv region increased by 34% due to the schedules: energy workers ask residents of the region to use electrical appliances rationally

The failure rate of the grids in the Kyiv region increased by a third. Most often, the failing equipment is the low-voltage one supplying electricity directly to the residents’ houses. One of the main causes of emergencies is simultaneous activation of the energy-intensive appliances immediately after restoration of power supply. DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids specialists gave advices on how to avoid this.
Number of emergencies on the grids in the Kyiv region increased by 34% due to the schedules: energy workers ask residents of the region to use electrical appliances rationally

Schedules of stabilization power shutdowns help energy workers stabilize the energy system of the country after enemy strikes on the power facilities and distribute the available electricity among everyone. At the same time, application of schedules causes an increase in the equipment failure rate.

“After introduction of stabilization shutdowns, the failure rate in the grids of the Kyiv region has increased by 34%. The primary cause is excessive load resulting from people turning on all available appliances simultaneously after power restoration: electric heating, electric stoves, washing machines, boilers, etc. We ask residents for helpusing electricity more rationally and following simple rules after electricity restoration, noted Vitalii Shaida, CEO at DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids.

To help the energy workers and to avoid exposing equipment in your homes to the risk of failure, please:

  • Disconnect all energy-intensive appliances from the grid during the stabilization shutdown. Additionally, turn off the light in the rooms where no one is present.
  • After electricity is restored, wait for at least 30 minutes before turning on energy-intensive appliances (washing machines, boilers, electric stoves, electric heating, etc.). At this time, energy equipment is the most sensitive to overloads.
  • Do not turn on all powerful appliances simultaneously. It should be used in turns: turning on one appliance only after completing the operation of the other.

Energy workers draw special attention to homes with electric heating, and they ask to refrain from turning on heating at maximum capacity as soon as electricity is restored, but rather gradually increase electric boiler’s capacity. For example: 20% of electric boiler’s capacity should be reached 20 minutes after restoration of the power supply, 50% – 30 minutes after restoration, and full capacity – 60 minutes after restoration.

Taking care about the grid together, we ensure more hours with light in our homes.
