Almost 24,000 repairs in the distribution grids are conducted without power shutdowns in the Dnipropetrovsk region
Top European countries are using the method of live line works on energy equipment and power lines, and since 2018, DTEK Dnipro Grids has been implementing it too. From January to August this year, energy workers conducted 23,800 repairs in the 0.4 kV grids (overhead power lines and metering cabinets) without power shutdowns for the customers. These are the grids that directly power the homes of the region’s residents.
“We were among the first in Ukraine to start using this method. This year, we have already carried out almost a quarter more live line repairs than last year. Thanks to this method, our customers do not feel repairs during scheduled and emergency activities. This is especially critical during the autumn-winter period, when enemy actions and weather conditions can lead to an increase in the number of emergencies,” — explains DTEK Dnipro Grids CEO Andrii Tereshchuk.
Training energy workers to perform live line works lasts up to three months. It is held at the special training yard in the Pavlohrad district, equipped to perform practical training. To ensure safe work performance, the company provides employees with protective overalls and special equipment: rubber gloves, hardhats, dielectric mats and other means. In 2025, 98 employees mastered this works method. A total of more than 700 specialists of DTEK Dnipro Grids can work using this method.
The company gradually expands the list of works that can be carried out without de-energization of the customers, on the 6-20 kV lines in particular. The goal is to carry out most of the repairs in the Dnipropetrovsk region uninterrupted.
