129 power facilities of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids have been damaged through negligence in the Kyiv region over 6 months

In the first half of 2025, 129 power facilities of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids have been damaged in the Kyiv region due to violation of safety rules by unauthorized people — residents were left without electricity and restoration required significant resources. In the majority of cases, it was damage to the poles or broken wires of the overhead power lines.
129 power facilities of DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids have been damaged through negligence in the Kyiv region over 6 months

One of the main reasons is violation of safety regulations during loading-unloading activities near the overhead lines. For example, a lorry, dumping construction debris in the secured zone, broke the wire with its body and found itself energized. Another case, car tires went on fire when unloading crushed stone. Fortunately, drivers knew what to do and were not harmed, however they suffered financial losses and left tens of households without electricity.

To avoid tragedies, energy workers remind about the following:

  • Do not perform unloading in the secured zone of the overhead lines.
  • Avoid bringing the car body close to the wires even a non-contact approach may be lethally dangerous.
If the vehicle touched the wire:
  • Do not leave the cabin until the line is de-energized.
  • If you have to leave the vehicle (for instance, due to the fire), please do it, while not touching the car body, and walk away to the distance of 8–10 meters with small steps.

Any intrusion in the work of power facilities or violation of safety rules may have grave consequences both for people’s lives and for stable power supply. We urge everyone to follow the rules of electrical safety.

Let us remind that DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids has previously listed 10 important rules of electrical safety. Following them will help avoid dangerous situations near power facilities.
