DTEK Grids DSO together with the Ambassador of France to Ukraine have sealed a time capsule within first digital substation
The time capsule symbolizes resilience of Ukrainian energy workers, joint work of Ukraine and France on restoring the Ukrainian energy system and transition to the new age of advanced grids. Digital substation will become a new power supply center for one of the districts in the Kyiv region that was affected by war and will ensure stable power supply to more than 65,000 households and enterprises.
“This facility is an important step in modernization of the energy infrastructure. Digital substations change the approach to managing the grid, improve its resilience and allow quicker restoration of power supply after emergencies. For us, this is not just a project — this is a foundation for the post-war recovery of Ukraine and energy security of all Europe,” – commented DTEK Grids CEO Alina Bondarenko.
“Construction of this facility is not just a specific support of the energy resilience of Ukraine by France; it is also a direct contribution to its transition to the highest European standards. Today as never before, France is sure that the future of Ukraine is in the European Union, where it will make its contribution to our common welfare and strategic autonomy, through energy independence in particular. This is also about honoring the incredible resilience of the Ukrainian people despite the crimes, committed by russia in the Kyiv region,” – said the Ambassador of France to Ukraine Gael Veyssiere.
“The new substation will become a boost to development of one of the districts in the Kyiv region, as this means additional capacities and reliable power supply for both new residential complexes and industrial facilities. Therefore, this project creates conditions for the rise of local economy and accelerates region’s restoration to the normal life,” – stated head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Mykola Kalashnyk.
As of today, key preparatory activities have been completed, substation’s foundation has been erected and construction of the cable floor is ongoing.
Let us remind that construction of the digital substation became possible thanks to the grant from the government of France in the amount of EUR 11 mln and DTEK Grids DSO own investment of EUR 4 mln. GE Vernova provides digital energy equipment and technologies for live remote control and diagnostics of the grid.
Digital Substation will become a part of the “Grids of the Future” project that DTEK Grids is implementing for modernization of the distribution grids in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions, as well as in the city of Kyiv.
