Preparation for winter: DTEK Odesa Grids upgraded almost 80% of power facilities planned for this year

Energy workers of DTEK Odesa Grids are preparing the energy infrastructure for winter. Over the course of nine months, specialists reconstructed almost 80% of the overall number of power facilities specified in this year’s investment program, including: high-voltage substations, distribution points, overhead and cable power lines. Energy workers are doing everything to reduce the risks of emergencies in winter and provide electricity for every home.
Preparation for winter: DTEK Odesa Grids upgraded almost 80% of power facilities planned for this year

Since the beginning of the year, DTEK Odesa Grids completed reconstruction of four high-voltage substations in the region. Energy workers replaced part of obsolete equipment with the new one, thus providing an opportunity to ensure stable operation of the grid and improve reliability of power supply for almost 50,000 customers in Odesa and Bolgrad districts of the region.

“We have completed reconstruction of 108 power facilities, which is 78% of the scope of works planned for this year. The plan is to complete 100% of all projects. The company has already invested UAH 764 mln in the grids. The total sum of the 2025 investment program amounts to UAH 1.3 bln. Our main goal is to provide all our customers with reliable power supply,” – underscored Dmytro Hryhoriev, CEO at DTEK Odesa Grids CEO.

In order to manage the grid online and promptly eliminate emergencies, energy workers installed reclosers on 22 10-kV overhead lines. A recloser or an automatic vacuum circuit breaker allows quick detection and separation of the damaged section of the overhead line, where a technical violation occurred, while maintaining power supply to the majority of customers. This allows emergency crews save time in locating the damage and reduce the duration of power outages for the customers. This is a crucial part of the Smart Grids digitalization.

Additionally, specialist reconstructed telecontrol systems at 10 power facilities, making it possible to remotely control the grid. In particular, track the load, promptly react to emergencies, switch the lines and provide customers with electricity from the backup sources, if needed.

All these measures together with the repair campaign will allow DTEK Odesa Grids to create the required safety margin ahead of the heating season and will make the grid more manageable and reliable.
