Preparing for winter: DTEK repaired more than 900 km of power lines in the Dnipropetrovsk region in order to improve reliability of the grids
Ukrainians have passed the most difficult autumn-winter period in the history of the country. Nevertheless, the upcoming winter of 2023-2024 will have just as many challenges. Therefore, DTEK Dnipro Grids energy workers are actively preparing the region’s electrical equipment. In particular, they have already repaired and reconstructed 933 kilometers of power lines, as well as 142 substations and distribution points of various voltage levels. They have also cleared more than 2,300 km of the overhead lines from branches and drywood. This will help improve reliability of the grids and reduce probability of outages in winter.
“DTEK Grids is a foundation and support for normal life of the country and our customers. The region is now ready for various scenarios. We understand that the enemy may resume its attempts to destroy our energy system by shelling the critical infrastructure facilities. That is why energy workers are currently conducting all required scheduled repairs, ensure protection of all substations, improve stability and reliability of the grids. The main objective is to do everything to make the grids ready for winter challenges and, if possible, avoid outages,” – noted DTEK Dnipro Grids General Director Andrii Tereshchuk.
Besides scheduled repairs, despite of the war, DTEK energy workers also take care of the development and modernization of the Dnipropetrovsk region’s energy system. They have already reconstructed 44 power facilities. By the end of the year, its total number will reach 50. Among them is a large substation in Dnipro. As well as a new 150 kV underground cable line in one of the city’s residential areas, which will replace an old overhead line and ensure a more reliable power supply for almost 80,000 families.
DTEK Dnipro Grids also urges service companies to take a responsible attitude to the preparation of high-rise buildings in the towns for winter. They are the ones taking care of and responsible for condition of intra-house networks. Before the beginning of the autumn-winter period, housing offices, condominiums and managing companies should inspect their equipment, conduct required maintenance and eliminate any malfunctions in order to ensure reliable power supply of buildings.
