Preparing for winter: DTEK has already repaired over 500 power facilities to improve reliability of the grids in Odesa region
At the meeting, chaired by the Minister of Energy, it was discussed that the 2023-2024 autumn-winter period will have no fewer challenges than the previous one.
“Next winter may be even more difficult than the previous one – we expect the enemy to again try to target and destroy the energy system. Last winter, Odesa, perhaps even more than other regions, felt what absence of power supply means. And our task today is to make every effort and help each other in order to prepare the region and the city of Odesa for the next winter as best as possible,” – noted Herman Halushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
Regional energy workers prepare the energy system for all potential challenges of the coming autumn-winter period. DTEK Odesa Grids General Director Dmytro Hryhoriev reported on the state of the company’s grids preparation.
“DTEK Odesa Grids is the foundation and support for normal life of the region and our customers. Over the entire period of a full-scale invasion, the enemy has damaged or completely destroyed 81 power facilities of the company. We repaired equipment to the operating condition, where it was possible. Once the previous AWP ended, we immediately started preparing for the next one – upgrading equipment, repairing lines and power facilities, clearing routes along the overhead power lines, etc. We cannot predict enemy’s plans, but in cooperation with our colleagues from the main power networks we will do everything possible to pass the winter with electricity. In the event of any emergencies, our 206 emergency and repair crews are working 24/7 to restore electricity to customers’ homes as soon as possible,” – noted Dmytro Hryhoriev, General Director at DTEK Odesa Grids.
Within their preparation for the upcoming winter, DTEK Odesa Grids energy workers have already repaired 516 power facilities that power residential neighborhoods, hospitals, schools and other social facilities in towns and villages of the region. These works will help ensure uninterrupted power supply to the customers, providing the enemy does not launch new missile strikes on the power facilities.
The company plans to repair another 364 power facilities by the end of the year.
During the visiting meeting, the Minister of Energy has personally visited key power facilities of the region, including the ones serviced by DTEK Odesa Grids.
