Over 57,000 repairs in the distribution grids are conducted without power shutdowns, – DTEK Grids DSO
Top European countries are using the method of live line works on energy equipment and power lines, and since 2021, DTEK Grids DSO have been gradually introducing it. From January to August this year, energy workers conducted 57,400 repairs in the 0.4 kV grids (power lines and metering cabinets) without power shutdowns for the customers, namely 23,800 repairs – in the Dnipropetrovsk region, 24,000 – in the Odesa region, 2,500 – in the capital, and 6,900 – in the Kyiv Region. These are the grids that go to the homes of Ukrainians.
“Since the beginning of 2025, DTEK Grids DSO specialists carried out over 57,000 works using an advanced live line works method. This is 30% more than during the same period last year. We invest in training our energy workers and advanced equipment for our customers to get high-quality service. This is especially critical during the autumn-winter period, when enemy actions and weather conditions can lead to an increase in the number of emergencies. However, thanks to such method the families will not even notice energy workers repairing the grids,” — explains DTEK Grids CEO Alina Bondarenko.
Training energy workers to perform live line works lasts up to three months. It is held at the special training yards. To ensure safe work performance, DTEK Grids DSO provide employees with protective overalls and special equipment: rubber gloves, hardhats, dielectric mats and other means. In 2025, 448 employees mastered this method of works on the distribution grids. A total of more than 1,700 specialists of DTEK Grids DSO can work using this method.
Distribution Systems Operators gradually expand the list of works that can be carried out live (without disconnection of the customers) and plan to upscale this approach in the future.
