Light despite shelling: how Kyiv region went through the 2024/25 heating season
During a press briefing, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids CEO Vitalii Shaida informed that the company repaired and upgraded over 9,500 km of the overhead power lines, upgraded almost 2,000 power facilities and carried out 852 repairs of cable lines. Over 4,000 km of routes were cleared of brushwood. Due to these large-scale preparatory activities, the company was able to prepare for the autumn-winter period in a quality manner and successfully go through it, providing reliable power supply to the residents of the Kyiv region in the wartime conditions.
“In 2024, we connected almost 13,000 facilities, which makes 80% of the 2021 figure. This is a confirmation of the Kyiv region living, building and developing, and this requires a sophisticated electrical infrastructure. Therefore, we direct all available resources to reinforcement of the grids to fulfil the region’s need in sustainable and reliable energy system. The amount invested in repairs and development of the grid in 2024 is UAH 1.5 bln. In 2025, we will additionally invest over UAH 1 bln,” — noted DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids CEO Vitalii Shaida during the press briefing.
In particular, the company plans to repair more than 1,600 power facilities and more than 9,000 kilometers of the overhead lines in 2025, as well as clear more than 4,000 kilometers of routes under the overhead power lines from brushwood.
DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids strives to be a reliable partner for the business that supports green power generation, as it is about energy independence and light in the homes of Ukrainians. In 2024, 5 industrial facilities of “green” energy were connected to the company’s grids: two solar power plants (SPP), one bioenergy facility and two stations, producing thermal energy.
Additionally, 1,500 prosumers (household solar power generation stations that sell electrical energy to the grid) were connected to the company’s grids. They play an important role in improving sustainability of the energy system, especially in the conditions of regular attacks on the power generation facilities and backbone networks.
Digital transformation became another element of stability. In 2024, a Grid Digital Twin pilot project was implemented in the Irpin energy hub, making it possible to promptly react to emergencies, better plan the load and improve reliability of power supply.
Besides, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids reminds its customers that in order to get reliable information regarding the state of the region’s grids, emergency power outages and terms of electricity restoration, one should only use official company’s channels: website, Facebook page, call center.
