Knowledge of electrical safety saves lives: DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids reminds about 10 important rules

In the conditions of war and destruction, safety matters become especially important. Even one wrong action near the broken wire or transformer substation may cause harm.

DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids occupational safety specialists call for the following: “Do not approach power facilities, damaged by the strikes, do not approach broken lines, do not try to restore power supply by yourself, do not start a fire under the power lines – all this is deadly dangerous! Besides a threat to health and life, this can cause large-scale fires, damage in the grids and lead to power outages of entire settlements and enterprises.”

10 electrical safety rules from DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids:

  • do not approach switchboards, transformers and other power facilities, and do not try to interfere with its operation;
  • staying underneath the overhead power lines and climbing the poles is life-threatening;
  • it is strictly forbidden to start fires, burn deadwood, put garbage or keep flammable materials near the power lines and transformer substations;
  • in the event of discovery of a broken wire, stay at least 8 meters away and inform the company;
  • if you have already entered the hazardous zone near the broken wire, leave it without hurrying, keeping your feet close together. Move without taking your feet off the ground, half a foot at a time;
  • do not throw foreign objects on the power lines, roofs of substations or distribution points, do not fly kits and do not fish near the power lines;
  • do not plant trees near the overhead power lines and underneath them;
  • avoid climbing roofs of buildings with electrical wires laid nearby;
  • in the event of power outages, do not try to perform repair by yourself. If a blackout happens in an apartment or house, please call an electrician, servicing your house. If there is a blackout on the entire street or block, please, inform the company in any convenient manner;
  • in the event of fire near power lines or substations, broken wires, open doors of substations or suspicious-looking people near power facilities, please inform the company immediately.
