Power lines in the Dnipropetrovsk region may run near the recreation and fishing sites: along or through water bodies, park zones and woodlands. What to pay attention to in such places in order not to put yourself and others at risk of electrocution, – explains DTEK Dnipro Grids.
Why recreation and fishing near power lines is dangerous – explains DTEK Dnipro Grids

“Human life and health are a No.1 priority for DTEK. The company cares about safety of residents and guests of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Therefore, we remind that every power line has its own security zone that covers both the land underneath and the airspace around it. And we emphasize that staying in this zone is dangerous!” – explained DTEK Dnipro Grids.

The security zone around power lines covers from 10 to 40 meters on both sides. This must be considered when choosing a fishing or recreation site, as staying directly under the power lines or close to it should be avoided.

It should be kept in mind that not only touching the wires or other parts of the power lines may be life and health threatening. Electrocution from high-voltage grids is possible even at the distance of 5 meters!

Imagine a situation when a 1.7-meter-tall fisherman walks under wires located 7 meters above the ground, carrying a 6-meter-long fishing rod on his shoulder. Even if the fishing rod does not touch the wires – there is a risk of electrocution of the fisherman. Besides, modern fishing rods are made of carbon plastic, which is an exceptionally good conductor of electricity. Therefore, walking with a fishing rod under the power lines is the same as walking with a metal rod.

Additionally, it is prohibited to fly kites near the power lines. As the thread may be made of the carbon fiber or with addition of metal fibers, which are good conductors of electricity.

Take care of yourself, your family and follow the rules of behavior near power lines, choose places for leisure away from the power lines.
