By the end of the year, DTEK will clear over 3,000 kilometers of overhead lines in the Kyiv region from shrubs

In order to prepare the region for the cold season, DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids specialists will clear over 3,000 kilometers of overhead power lines’ routes from green spaces. Such measures will help prevent power outages, caused by possible touching and falling of tree branches on the wires.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers, this heating season will be very difficult for Ukraine. All responsible parties should do the best they can to pass it. Clearing routes underneath power lines from green spaces is an important part of works related to reduction of accidents rate and preparation of the regional grid for the cold season. This year, DTEK specialists will clear 3,187 kilometers of the 35-110 kV and 0.4-10 kV grid.

Clearing routes of the overhead power lines is a part of this work. – notes DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids representative. As of now, energy workers have already cleared 2,369 kilometers of lines. It will help avoid power outages due to fallen tree branches.”

In order to ensure safety of employees that prune trees, Distribution System Operator may temporarily de-energize the grid in accordance with schedules, approved by local authorities.

DTEK Kyiv Regional Grids notes that employees of the company should not be the only ones clearing routes from tree branches and undergrowth. According to the regulations, owners of green spaces and land users are the ones responsible for its preservation and proper care. I.e., residents of private sector should prune trees and shrubs in their yards and household plots. While local authorities should do it on the ownerless territories, waste-grounds. However, in order to ensure safety of such activities, please coordinate with schedules of temporary grid de-energization.

DTEK specialists, in their turn, perform scheduled pruning of trees that grow in the security zone of the overhead power lines.
