An extremely difficult heating season is expected in Ukraine this year due to the war. As the cold approaches, DTEK Dnipro Grids advised the residents how to safely use electrical appliances during low temperatures and maintain comfortable temperature in their homes without any risk of power outages.
DTEK Dnipro Grids gave advice on the use of electrical heating appliances during the cold season

DTEK Group is a responsible business, partner of society and state. DTEK Dnipro Grids is doing everything necessary to ensure reliable operation of regional grids infrastructure during the heating season. In the conditions of war, energy workers are implementing repair programs, inspecting and eliminating flaws in the equipment. However, electricity cannot fully replace centralized heating.

Networks in houses are designed for a certain consumption power. Mass usage of electrical appliances for heating increases the load 3-4 times. It can cause mass emergencies on the grids and power outages. For this reason, we urge residents to cautiously use electrical appliances for heating of homes during the cold season and remember energy safety rules,” – underscored the company.

Caring for the welfare of customers, DTEK Dnipro Grids recommends following 7 simple rules that will help not to be left without electricity in winter:

  • Do not exceed the permitted power capacity, indicated in the electricity distribution agreement for your house or apartment. It can cause a blackout of your house or even the entire street and district;
  • Distribute load. Turn on powerful appliances one by one. This is particularly important for buildings, built before 2000. Usually, they are not designed for large loads in the grid;
  • Try to avoid peak load hours. These, usually, are 7:00 to 11:00 and 20:00 to 22:00. Peak load on the grids is usually at these periods both for a specific apartment and for the district;
  • Prefer using power saving and power efficient devices with А, А+, А++ и А+++ marking;
  • Use heating appliances, dishwashers and washing machines at night hours. This will avoid emergency load spikes;
  • Check for electrician’s contact information, as if the power supply issues are within the house, then the person responsible for the intra-building networks should be the one dealing with the issue:

- for an apartment – balance holder (condominium, managing company, etc.);

- for a private house – owner of the property;

  • Monitor the condition of the intra-building networks. In case of sparks, smoke or overheating of wires, immediately switch off the input circuit breakers and contact an electrician. Do not try to eliminate a malfunction yourself. It can be dangerous;

If you have a power outage, please inform DTEK Dnipro Grids via remote service channels: website, social networks, contact center +38 (056/066/067/063) 790-99-00, 0-800-301-497, Viber and Telegram chatbots.

As informed earlier, the region is now actively preparing for the heating season. By the beginning of cold weather, DTEK Dnipro Grids specialists will upgrade equipment of 160 power facilities in the region and 200 km of power lines. This will improve reliability of power supply to residents, institutions and enterprises during the high electricity demand period.
