Electricity meters, just like any other complex electrical devices, may malfunction sometimes. Such cases are especially frequent during application of the stabilization shutdown schedules. Technically complex multi-zone smart meters are most vulnerable at this time, such as NIK-series devices. For DTEK Kyiv Grids to estimate volume of electricity that you have actually consumed and, thus, for you to receive correct electricity bills from the supplier, we explain the algorithm of actions in the event of meter’s error (malfunction).
DTEK Kyiv Grids reminds: a “healthy” meter = correct electricity bills

The causes of meters malfunctioning may varymechanical damageend of power components’ service lifefactory defectloosening of contactsphysical wearetcApplication of power shutdown schedules has a negative effect on meters operation tooMalfunctioning of the metering device does not always cause suspension of power supplybut it may cause errors in estimation of consumed kWh.

To avoid thisDTEK Kyiv Grids recommends its customerseven if they have a smart meter that transmits readings on its ownto periodically check correctness of its operation.

The difference between the visually operating meter and the malfunctioning one is that when there is electricity in the building the display shows readings for daynight and total consumption in turns, as well as other readings.

If such indications as “ERROR”, “T4” (emergency zone), battery indicator (in case of time misalignment over +,- 30 min.) appear on the meters displaywhile the sum of night and day consumption does not match the total numberthen the meter is malfunctioning and needs to be repaired or replacedTo do thatcustomers must contact DTEK Kyiv Grids as soon as possibleThis can be done remotely by sending a request through the company’s website:

  • Enter individual account number;
  • Select the required service from the category “Problems in meter operation”
  • File a request.

DTEK Kyiv Grids technical specialist will visit the customer to repair or replace the malfunctioning meter.
