The RESILIENCE MARK 2026 award at the ESG Leaders Assembly conference “Responsibility That Comes at a Price” honours Ukrainian companies that come up with practical solutions and achieve proven results in the conditions of a full-scale war.

DTEK Grids DSO launched the “Stork Track” project in 2026 jointly with Ukrainian ornithologists. At the pilot stage, GPS trackers were equipped on 10 young white storks – five each in Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The devices provide an opportunity to track birds’ migration routes, their stopping and wintering sites. The data collected will become a foundation for identifying potential environmental risk areas and planning bird protection measures near the energy infrastructure. This will help take natural factors into account during modernization of the grids, reduce risks for the birds, and improve reliability of power supply.

“Sustainability of the energy system is not just an ability to restore damaged grids, but also a skill to develop them with the future in mind. To do this, it is important to rely on data, science, and advanced technology, which help foresee risks and find solutions that cover the needs of both people and nature. We strive for the modernization of the energy infrastructure to take into account environmental risks, and the experience that this project provides could also be useful for other companies and organizations,” – noted DTEK Grids CEO Alina Bondarenko.

“Stork track” adds to more than a decade of DTEK Grids DSO experience of protecting the white stork. The project may be further upscaled to new regions and other types of birds.
