Why you should not rest and fish under the power lines — DTEK Dnipro Grids explains

Power lines in the Dnipropetrovsk region may pass along the shores of rivers, near the parks, lakes, woods and other places that residents of the region often choose for leisure. Energy workers remind the following: staying under the power lines is life-threatening. What should you pay attention to in order not to put yourself or others in danger of electrocution, — DTEK Dnipro Grids explains.

Depending on the level of voltage, security zone around the power lines is from 2 to 40 meters in both directions. You must take it into consideration when choosing a place for fishing or leisure, and you should not stay directly under the power lines or close to them.

Human life is of the highest value. We urge residents and guests of the Dnipropetrovsk region to be careful: staying near the power lines, especially underneath them, is dangerous. A security zone covers not just the land underneath the line but also the air space around it, and this must be taken into consideration during leisure or fishing,”notes DTEK Dnipro Grids.

It should be kept in mind that not only touching the wires or equipment is dangerous. Electrocution from high voltage grids is possible even at the distance of up to 5 meters. For example, modern fishing rods made of carbon plastic are great current conductors. Therefore, walking with the fishing rod under the power lines is a direct threat to life.

Additionally, you can get electrocuted during unsuccessful casting of wet cord or fishing line. Besides, it is dangerous to fly kites near the power lines: their cords often contain metal or carbon fibers that are good conductors of electricity.

Take care about yourself and your loved ones: follow simple safety rules and choose sites for leisure at the safe distance from the power lines.
